The comforts of fall cooking

We at Cinta Manis love comfort food, and the season is approaching for us to enjoy it every night. During fall, the pace of life seems to slow down just a little bit and we seem to take more time for the small things - especially cosy dinners in front of the fire.

Our fall recipes are here to help you get through the colder days with warmth in your heart. We’ve looked at one of favourite food blogs, Bon Appétit, to get inspired.

Meats

Fårikål

This traditional Norwegian dish is obviously first on our list because it is simple, delicious and tastes like home. It consists of lamb and cabbage served with potatoes and a hearty sauce, and is perfect for a weeknight fall dinner at home. The best part about Fårikål is that its 3-day old leftovers taste even better than the first night! Inspired by our Norwegian roots, this dish is a winner every time.

Short Rib Pot Pie

This recipe makes a hefty amount, but trust us – if you’ve invited some friends around for a cosy, autumn night in, this pie will disappear before your very eyes. If you use real butter, the super flaky pie crust will change your life and give you inspiration to suffer through winter.

Beer-Braised Brisket

Not only will this slow-cooker dish make your mouth water; the smell will give your whole house a cosy, homely feeling. The crispy skin contrasts perfectly with the tender meat and there are so many options of vegetables to serve as sides that you will have a hard time deciding. What’s more: cold brisket on a sandwich the next day is one of the best-kept culinary secrets of our time!

Curries and Soups

Chicken Minestrone

The colorful, tasty vegetables in this recipe are what make it so exciting. Added to a hot broth and some juicy chicken meatballs, the vegetables bring out flavours that will have you thinking about warmer days during fall. You don’t have to eat boring, dull foods just because the skies are grey – be inspired by seasonal vegetables and turn your kitchen into a factory of good ideas!

Vegetable Curry

This vegetarian curry recipe is especially for our vegetarian readers – don’t worry, we haven’t forgotten about you. The vegetables and their flavours are complex and complimentary, and it just gets better the more you reheat it in the week that follows.

You can choose the level of spice and heat to bring to your table and can always calm it down with a bit of creamy coconut milk. This kind of dish is perfect when served with rice or potatoes and eaten in front on a movie on the couch – a fall favorite.

Curried Butternut Soup

An age-old favorite, butternut or any kind of squash soup is the ultimate fall comfort food. Easy to make and requiring only a few ingredients, even beginner cooks can throw this one together for a dinner party. This soup will even be a hit with the meat-lovers in your group of friends!

The trick with butternut soup is to add in just the smallest hint of curry to keep your guests guessing. And, of course, to eat it with lots and lots of fresh, buttered bread.

Sweet Treats

Apple Cider Doughnuts

Crunchy on the outside, sweet and moist on the inside and with a distinct cinnamon flavour, these doughnuts should be a staple in your home during fall. You can eat them for dessert, or for breakfast with a cup of tea, or any other time during the day because you need no excuse to devour these delicious treats.

Apple Pie

This recipe is a no-brainer and we absolutely had to put it onto our list, because what is more typically fall than apple pie? Besides the fact that you probably grew up eating it at your grandparents’ home and it reminds you of your childhood, the apple and cinnamon also perfectly encapsulates the taste and color of the season. This slice of heaven will warm you up from the inside. It’s also perfect for a midnight snack if you can’t sleep.

Whether for you fall cooking means family dinners, big dinner parties with all your friends and lots of red wine, or cooking for one and eating in front of the fire, our collection of favorites won’t disappoint.

Embrace the colder days by enjoying the season’s vegetables and flavors, and keep your house and your heart warm with home cooking.

-With Sweet Love
